Brother Thorfinn (Lord
Thorfinn Voouselur)
Thorfinn Voouselur

Born on the northern coast of France to a poor fisherman,
Thorfinn was given the name of his Great Grandfather, a
Norse explorer who made those banks his home at the end
of his sordid career.  Thorfinn was an easygoing child and
not very quick to come to violence, so as such, he was
beaten by other boys on a day to day basis.  This led his
Great Grandfather to bestow him with the moniquer
"Voouselur" before he died, which in old Norse meant Harp
Seal, an animal the Vikings often clubbed over the head to
kill for their warm pelts.
After a hard life of being picked on, Thorfinn decided that
he would seek to become a soldier.  He left his family and
home to seek renown on the battlefield.  Thorfinn traveled
many miles into Germania.  It came one day that he
happened along an older, grizzled squire by the name of
Johannas of Seleon.  The two of them conversed for a while,
mostly Thorfinn questioned Johannas about his exploits in
battle and of the untimely death of his former Knight.  Johan
took to the boy very quickly and decided to teach him the
ways of being a warrior.
Thorfinn learned slowly and was stubborn, but Johannas
was patient and he decided that what he could not teach by
words, he would teach by action...  Lots of action...Over and
over.  Day after day, the Teacher administered relentless
beatings to his student, all the while addressing Thorfinn by
his childhood nickname.  These actions eventually lit a
spark in Thorfinn's soul.  He began to learn faster.  He
adapted to his surroundings.  His defense and attacks
became more keen.  He would fight until his muscles burned
and then press on until his teacher could stand no more.
Thorfinn's only joys in life became, fighting and his
friendship to his teacher.  He followed Johannas anywhere.
They trekked across the span of the Continent, across
countless Kingdoms, fighting for the side of any who would
pay their price.  Eventually they found themselves in the
Kingdom of Caid, where the warriors were the most
fearsome either man had ever seen.  They knew that this
would be the place where their names would be made.
They enlisted into the King's Iron Brigade.  The warriors of
the brigade taught Thorfinn the secrets that made their
fighters so ferocious and deadly.  Thorfinn fought his best
and was eventually elevated to the Order of The Cresent
Sword by the King and Queen of Caid.  It would have
appeared that Thorfinn was on top of the World.  But, as
time went on, he began to seek more from life than fighting
for money and glory.  Thorfinn wanted a purpose, then
more than ever.  The scars from his childhood had all but
faded from sight.  He no longer fought because of anger.
He fought to defend the values that he held dear.  He
believed that the most important things a man could posses
were the values of Honor, Courage, Loyalty, Faith in one's
God, and the desire to defend the weak and oppressed.
At that time a small band of Borthers had formed in his
home barony.
These good men had bound together and had taken up the
cross of our Lord.  They were a priory of the Order of St.
John of the Hospital simply know as the Hospitallers.
Thorfinn saw a glow in those men that he had not seen
before in a warband.  They were truly brothers, though not
of blood.  The man knew immediately that this would be
where he would find his true place.  After taking the cross, it
was not long before the Hospitallers were sent to defend
their Kingdom against the Hoards from the north and east.
Upon the road to battle,  Thorfinn spoke at length to Duke
Christian Du' Glaive, a Knight of reknown and Grand Master
of the Order.  Thorfinn desired to be taught the values of
Knighthood.  His Grace  saw a spark in the young man and
decided to make Thorfinn his Squire once they reached
the War.  On the first day of battle Lord Methius, the
Gonfinair of the Hospitallers came to Thorfinn and offered
him the honor of being his second in command.  He did his
best to fight the enemy and protect his brothers for two
greulling days of combat and they repaid him with the same.
In the end, the enemy tide subsided and the Hospitallers
returned home, with their accolades being sung by their
allies.  But that is not why they fought.  They fought to
defend the Faith and the Kingdom, nothing more.  And
Thorfinn and his Brothers succeeded.  Sadly, peace only
lasts a short time in the Kingdom of Caid and war would
surely come with in the Spring.  So, Thorfinn and his
brothers continue to train to curb the rising of the tides.
